The village of Mataghis is situated at the foot of mount Mrav, on the shore of the Tartar river. During the war, together with dozens of other villages in the Martakert region it was captured and destroyed. After the liberation of the village in April 1994, Mataghis, which strengthened the northern borders of Artsakh, began to turn into a prosperous settlement, with little but definite steps until April 2016. It was one of the first villages to suffer, but it did not collapse and stayed strong.
